PDP President meets tour operators |
September 16: The president of the People’s Democratic Party, former Agriculture Minister Lyonpo Sangay Ngedup met with tour operators, tour guides and hoteliers in Thimphu on the evening of September 14.
Speaking to them, he said the tourism industry is very important for socio economic development and employment generation.
The other industries, he said do not have as much scope and opportunity to develop. He said the PDP is cognizant of the problems the tourism industry is facing including infrastructure, human resource, quality of service, and tax incentives.
The party president said PDP will promote the tourism industry regardless of whether the operators support the party.
Tourism development, he said is far too important for the economic development of the kingdom to be neglected. He said a committee will be formed to look into the issues raised during the meeting.
North Thimthrom candidate meets Kawang people
Party candidates are busy making familiarization visits to their constituency and getting to know the people in their constituency.
As the PDP continues its familiarization visits, our reporter Sonam Lhamu followed the PDP candidate for North Thimthrom Dr. Tobgay Wangchuck. More than 250 people of Kawang Gewog attended the familiarization meeting in Hejo on September 14.
Speaking to the gathering, the PDP candidate for North Thimphu Throm Dr. Tobgay Wangchuck highlighted the strength of the PDP including its president.
The party president former Agriculture Minister Lyonpo Sangay Ngedup spoke about the introduction of democracy and the importance of people’s participation. He said the PDP will not make empty promises. He said if the PDP wins the election, they will look into problems faced by residents and landowners in Thimphu. One of the major problems faced by Thimphu residents, he said, is the drinking water shortage.
He said PDP will look into the issue if it wins the election. The meeting ended with people who have gathered for the meeting expressing their support for the People’s Democratic Party.
Some said having met the party president and attended the meeting they are going to vote for PDP. Others however said they will attend other meetings and decide who they want to vote for. |
