January 24:
On January 1, 2008, the filing of the Personal Income Tax (PIT) was started. But here at the office of the Regional Revenue and Customs only 703 people have filed their PIT.

In 2007, there were 8,200 people who came to file their Personal Income Tax at this office. This year officials expect about 8,500 tax payers to turn up.

Ugyen Kesang, the Tax Head of the Regional Revenue and Customs office in Thimphu said that if the Tax Payers are ready with the necessary documents, now is the right time to file their personal income tax.

Some tax payers say filling the forms is complicated.

Ugyen Kesang says that compared to other countries, Bhutan has one of the simplest PIT filing procedure.

Last year the Department of Revenue and Custom earned Nu. 49 million from the Personal Income Tax from Thimphu alone.

The last date of filing the Personal Income Tax is on the March 1.
