December 13: An accident at the Bhutan Carbide and Chemicals limited (BCCL) in Pasakha has claimed the life of one employee and left five others injured. The accident occurred at around 10 am on December 11.

Our reporter Tenzin Wangda says the accident occurred at the furnace of the plant. The cause of the accident is however not known.

BCCL officials said the injured were immediately rushed to the Phuentsholing hospital.

Four of the injured were later referred to the Siliguri hospital. Of the four, three are reported to be in critical condition.

BCCL officials said the accident is the first of its kind since the company was established. Meanwhile the company is carrying out an internal investigation.
