Officials from Ministry of External Affairs visit GoI assisted projects

Officials from the Government of India (GoI) including the Indian Joint Secretary North of Ministry of External Affairs, Ms. Preeti Saran visited GoI assisted projects and sites in the country.

Ms. Preeti Saran was accompanied by Additional Secretary from the Ministry of External Affairs N. Bala Baskar, the Joint Secretary for Hydro, Ministry of Power Jayant Kawale and Under Secretary from the Ministry of External Affairs, Anshuman Gaur.

They were in the kingdom to attend the authority meeting of Tala and Punatshangchu hydroelectric project. The meeting took place on Friday.

Over the weekend the delegation visited government of India assisted projects sites. Earlier yesterday the delegation visited the Puna-Tsangchu Hydro Power Project site in Wangduephodrang.

On Saturday, the Joint Secretary North visited the national referral hospital in Thimphu, the newly established RENEW building, the Semtokha Dzong, the new building of the Royal Academy of Performing Arts and the construction site of the new Television building of the Bhutan Broadcasting Service Corporation.

The 1095 Punatsangchu-I project is so far the largest hydroelectric project being undertaken in the country.

Construction starts this year and is expected to be completed by 2014. Officials from the Indian Embassy in Thimphu also accompanied the delegation.
