August 29: The High Court has sentenced the Nyisho Gup of Wangduephodrang, Phub Dorji to nine months in prison. He has been found guilty of official misconduct, forgery and embezzlement of geog funds.
The verdict which was passed on the August 14 says he can however pay fines in lieu of the prison term.
According to the verdict, the Gup will also have to refund over Nu. 122,000 to the geog.
Earlier this year, the Wangduephodrang District court had acquitted the Gup on grounds that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) cannot investigate cases that had taken place before the ACC was established.
The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) re-appealed to the High Court.
The Nyisho Gup said he will appeal to His Majesty the King and the case has been submitted to the office of the Gyalpoi Zimpoen on the August 25.
He said the Wangdue District court has found him not guilty on all four charges made against him after thorough investigations.
He said the high court has not conducted proper investigations.
