November 1 declared the clean Bhutan day

The Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the Royal Society for Protection of Nature has declared November 1 as Clean Bhutan Day.

The day will be observed throughout the country with mass clean up campaigns and advocacy messages.

This year the day was however observed yesterday in preparation for the coronation celebrations. It will be a day for the people to collectively participate in cleaning up their surroundings and to commit a clean Bhutan.


In the capital, Thimphu Dzongkhag administration observed the day with the residents of Yusipang and Hongtsho. They initiated a clean up campaign from Dochula till Simtokha.

The senior students of Hongtsho Community School also took part in the campaign. Similar programs were also initiated in other geogs. The day was also observed in all the Dzongkhags across the country.

The Clean Bhutan Day was declared to ensure a Clean Bhutan and a pure atmosphere during the coronation of His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo. It is also to inspire individuals and communities to collectively participate in proper waste management in their local areas.

It is dedicated to the efforts of the monarchs in endowing the national with pristine natural heritage.
