Nomads learn the nuances of politics

DPT's north Thim throm candidate

November 11: The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa’s candidate for the north Thim throm constituency met with the people of Naro Gewog in Thimphu, yesterday.

Naro Gewog in Lingzhi Dungkhag is about three days walking distance from Dodena in Thimphu.
More than 80 people from Naro Gewog gathered to attend the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa’s meeting.

Naro Gewog has about 51 households.  The people living there are mostly nomads. They spend their summer in Naro and in winter they migrate to lower valleys above Tango and Kabji Sinchula area. Most of the people told BBS that since they spend most of their time with yaks in mountains, they are not aware of the political scenario in the country.

After attending the meeting, they said that they understood the importance of their roles and responsibilities.

The meeting began with the DPT candidate from north thim throm constituency, Ugyen Tshering briefing the people on the parliamentary democracy. He stressed on the roles and responsibilities of the voters.

He said if democracy is to succeed, the public must not make mistake in electing the right party. 

He also briefed people about the secrecy of the vote. The Party’s candidate from Trashigang, Wangdi Norbu said it is important for the people to understand the party manifestos and their constituency candidates if they want to elect the right government.

He urged the people not to yield to the promises, threats and bribes by the political parties.  He also said that it is important for people to attend parties meeting to understand more about the political parties and their policies.

At the meeting the people were briefed on the party’s plans and policies by the party workers. They were also explained about the significance of the party’s logo. The party workers distributed the logos to the people.
