No funds for local government elections

July 26:
In a joint sitting of the parliament yesterday, members decided not to grant government funds for local government elections.

The difference had come about when the National Assembly members said government funds were not necessary for local government elections while the National Council members debated in favour of the funds.

Discussing the Election Bill, the members of the National Assembly had decided that funds for local government elections were not necessary while the National Council members said it is necessary to provide government funds for local government elections.

However, in a joint sitting of the parliament yesterday, the house cast YES and NO votes on this issue as the motion was passed by representatives from both the houses.

25 members voted in favour of allotting government funds for local government elections while 45 others voted against it.

The house resolved accordingly to not grant government funds for local government elections.
