November 5: The Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) released new Nu. 1,000 and Nu. 50 currency notes yesterday in the capital to mark the Coronation of His Majesty the King.
The Works and Human Settlement Minister Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba released the new notes.
A flurry of activities and events are being organized by various governmental and private organizations to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty the King.
The new notes bear the portrait of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.
RMA officials said the new notes have the latest security features. This means the notes cannot be counterfeited, scanned or photocopied. Other than this, the notes also have several features that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
The notes were designed by Dasho Karma Ura and Sonam Phuntsho of Centre for Bhutan Studies.
The notes were printed in the UK and Germany.
The RMA is also selling around 6000 gold and silver coins to mark the occasion. The gold coins are being sold at Nu. 56,114 each and silver coins at Nu. 1,500 each.
The Finance Minister Lyonpo Wangdi Norbu, the National Assembly Speaker Jigme Tshulltim and officials from other ministries and RMA were also present at the function.
