New Tendrel Thang inaugurated

October 08: From this year the Thimphu Tsechu will be held at the new Tendrel Thang. It was inaugurated by His Holiness the Je Khenpo yesterday morning.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley, the venerable Lopens of the Central Monastic Body, Cabinet Ministers, the Opposition Leader, and senior government officials. Also present were armed force personnel and grassroots leaders.

The Tendrel Thang built adjacent to the Tashichhodzong will be used for performing the mask dances during the Thimphu Tshechu and for the coronation of His Majesty the King.

Officials from the National Steering Committee for Centenary and Coronation Celebration say the ground will be open to public on November 6 to offer Thridhar to His Majesty the King.

It will also be used for holding other important events.

The Tendrel Thang has a three storied gallery for guests and underground rooms and toilets.

It can accommodate 25,000 people and was built at a cost of more than Nu. 100 million.
