New Attorney General and Dzongda appointed

July 5: His Majesty the King has appointed the Punakha Drangpoen Rinzin Penjor as the Attorney General and the Drungpa of Weringla Dungkhag under Monggar dzongkhag Tshewang Rinzin as the Chhukha Dzongda in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.

His Majesty has also awarded Patang to the new Attorney General Rinzin Penjor and Patang and Kabney to the new Chhukha Dzongda Tshewang Rinzin.

The new Attorney General Rinzin Penjor graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the Shri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi, India in 1988. Later, he acquired a bachelor’s degree in law from the Delhi University and a master’s degree in law from the Lord Dalhousie Law College in Canada.

He began his career with the High Court after successfully completing the RCSC examination in 1989. Over a career spanning about twenty years, he has served as Drangpoen in Tsirang, Sarpang, and Punakha. From 1990 to 1995, he served as a militia officer with the Royal Bhutan Army. Attorney General Rinzin Penjor is from Kazhi geog in Wangduephodrang.

The new Chhukha Dzongda Tshewang Rinzin is from Thimphu. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the National Institute of Education in Samtse. In 2003, he obtained a Master’s degree in Education from the University of New England in Australia.

He began his career as a computer programmer at the Royal Secretariat in 1983. In a career spanning over 20 years, he served as the Physical Education Instructor of the then NIE in Samtse, as a teacher and principal of Zhemgang Higher Secondary School and as the DEO of Chhukha Dzongkhang.
