October 15: The national football team defeated the Punjab police team to enter the finals of the All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup in Sikkim, India on Saturday. The team will now take on Chirag, a professional football club from KolKatta, in the finals today.
The Punjab police team lost to our national team in the tie breaker round 2-4.
Speaking to BBS the national football coach Khare Basnet said the win was historic for the team. He said the national team has once again reached the finals of the All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup after 24 years.
In 1983, the national team played the finals of the All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup against Punjab police team but lost the game.
Mr. Khare said he is confident that the team will win the cup. He said the opponent is strong but the team is prepared to face them.
Fourteen teams from Nepal, India and Bhutan are playing in the tournament.
The tournament is held in preparation for the South Asian Football Federation championship which will be held in Sri Lanka in May next year.
