October 20: The Election Commission of Bhutan announced the schedule and details of the National Council election. The dates were announced in the presence of Bhutanese media and officials from Election Commission by the Chief Election Commissioner.
From October 20, all the gewogs in the 20 Dzongkhags can commence gewog Zomdus to select their nominee who will file his/her nomination to contest the National Council Elections.
The gewog Zomdus should conclude by November 26. Candidates should have filed their nominations not later than November 27.
The date for scrutiny of nominations of candidates by the returning officers will be November 28.
Candidates can start the official election campaign on and after November 30, the last date for withdrawal of candidature.
The Dzongkhag Election Officers will issue recommendation for release of campaign Fund to candidates whose nominations are accepted on November 30.
The last date for release of campaign fund, Public Election Fund Division would have released the cheques to Bank Accounts of candidates will be on December 4.
Candidates must make sure on that their election campaign concludes on December 24.
The National Council Poll Day will be on December 26 and the votes will be counted and results made known on the same day.
However, the Election Commission will formally declare the Results on December 27 and the same shall be submitted to the Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty the King of Bhutan.
The Chief Election Commissioner said if there is only one candidate in the Dzongkhag, the election of that particular Dzongkhag will be postponed until there is a second candidate.
The Election Commissioner also issued the appointment orders for 47 national observers for the National Council election.
