October 23: With barely two months left for the National Council election, National Council candidates are meeting the people in their dzongkhag on familiarization visits.
In Thimphu, the National Council candidate Sangay Zam met with business community members and people of Thimphu Throm yesterday.
More than 1,000 people from Thimphu Throm and business community members attended the familiarization meeting.
The meeting began with the National Council candidate introducing herself to the gathering.
Sangay Zam, the only National Council candidate from Thimphu is a former principal of Gelephu Higher Secondary School.
She highlighted the role of the National Council and the importance of electing capable competent people as members.
Brochures containing her personal background, achievements, and views were also distributed to people attending the meeting.
Some of the people who attended the meeting said with only one National Council candidate their choice would be limited.
Announcing the National Council election date last week, the Chief Election Commissioner said if there is only one National Council candidate in the Dzongkhag, the election of that particular Dzongkhag will be postponed until there is a second candidate.
