NA discusses education related issues from school curriculum to up gradation of schools

January 13: The National Assembly members from Monggar Karma Lhamo and Ugyen Wangdi raised concerns about the standard of education. Karma Lhamo said if the school curriculum can be changed at all levels so that the consistency is maintained.

She said, both students and teachers would get accustomed to the system and will help improve the quality of education in the country. Ugyen Wangdi from Dremitse-Ngatshang constituency supported her views.

He also said sometimes schools do not get enough text books creating problems for both the teachers and the students. On this, the Education Minister the ministry has revised the curriculum for English, Dzongkha and Mathematics.

Lyonpo Thakur Singh Powdyel added that curriculum for the higher level students were revised as many questioned the standard of higher classes.

He also added that the shortage of text books in the schools is because of inconsistent number of students due to transfer cases. The Education Minister also informed the house that the ministry will be inviting foreign experts to review the facilities needed in schools.

The member from Goenkhatoe-Laya, requested whether the present primary school in Gasa could be upgraded again to a lower secondary school. The Education Minister said the school was made into a primary school due to less number of students. Lyonpo added the decision as taken after discussions with the Dzongkhag.
