September 03:The much awaited Gelephu town plan has been finalized. The plan has been stalled for a long time due to disagreements among the land owners on the land pooling.
This has been made possible after a meeting on September 02, where landowners discussed and accepted the revised local area plan. The land demarcation will be carried out within a month or two.
The revised draft plan was presented by officials from the Ministry of Works and Human Settlement. A ministry official said constructions within the extended town area will be allowed only on land measuring 13 decimals or more. Those who have less than 13 decimals and more than 9.7 decimals have to buy the remaining 3.3 decimals.
Speaking to the landowners, the Sarpang Dzongda said the town planning was delayed because the people could not come to a general consensus. Most people were reluctant to accept the plan because they could not agree on land contribution scheme.
Some landowners expressed disagreement with the land pooling scheme.
The meeting concluded after a prolonged ad heated debate with the dzongda saying that the issue should be discussed further with the municipal office.
