October 22: As the coronation celebrations draws closer, more and more people are placing orders for traditional boots or Tsho Lham at the Dralham Tshonglay Detshen located at Chubachu in Thimphu.
Rinzin Dukpa, a resident of Thimphu has come to place his order.
The owner, Kinzang Dorji takes down the feet size of the customer. Rinzin Dukpa then takes a closer look at the sample he would like to order. He seeks the opinion of the owner, an expert in boot making on the materials to be used for his boots.
Like Rinzin Dukpa, many customers visit the shop to place their orders adding to the workload.
However, Kinzang Dorji is determined to deliver the orders on time. So are his employees, who are working round the clock.
Kinzang Dorji says they have been working extra hours of late. Normally his employees work from 8am to 6pm with one hour lunch break. But lately, they have been working late into the night.
He said all these boots have been ordered and have another hundred or more to make. But despite the huge demand he said quality has not been compromised.
It takes a person one day to make a pair of tsholham. A pair tsholham costs between two thousand to five thousand Ngultrums depending on the materials used.
A plain tsholham with no embroidery costs two thousand ngultrums and a tsholham with embroidery can cost between three thousand to five thousand ngultrums depending on the embroidery.
