Missing girls found

August 19: Two teenage girls who were reported missing from their school in Zhemgang have been found in a hotel in Gelephu town. According to our Gelephu correspondent Sonam Rinchen, the two 14-year-old girls were about to abscond with a construction labourer.

Both are students of Gongphu Lower Secondary School in Zhemgang. The construction labourer who is reportedly from Bongaigong in Assam was working as a labourer at the construction of an academic block at the Gongphu Lower Secondary School.

A teacher of Gongphu Lower Secondary School said they went missing from the hostel right after dinner on Friday evening.

After the parents informed the Zhemgang police, the Dzongkhag administration and the police formed a search team. They also alerted the Gelephu police.

On Sunday, the Gelephu police who were tipped off by an informant found the two girls in the hotel but the construction labourer had fled. The two girls said the man went missing from the morning without informing them.
