May 4: The 1st Annual Media Award was held last evening. The awards were given in 14 categories. There were nine awards for the print media, three for radio, and two for TV.
In TV, Dawa who hosts live debates and panel discussions on BBS TV got the best anchor award.
BBS TV producer Neten Dorjee got the award for the best TV programme of the year.
Damcho Wangchuk, a BBS radio producer, walked away with the award for the most informative radio programme.
Ugyen Wangmo of Radio Valley won the award for the most entertaining radio programme and Pema Wangchuk, also of Radio Valley, was declared the best radio host.
In print, Bhutan Times received the award for the best designed newspaper and Karma Singye Dorji of Bhutan Times took away the best political report award.
Gopilal Acharya of Bhutan Times got the award for the best business report.
Kuensel’s Tenzin Dorji won the best photographer award and Tashi Dema, a kuensel reporter, won the best feature story award, while Phuntsho Choden walked away with the best investigative story award.
Chimi R Namgyel of Bhutan Observer got the best cartoon award.
Bhutan Observer also got the award for the best Dzongkha edition.
The award for the best editorial was shared by Kuensel, Bhutan Times, and Bhutan Observer.
The Opposition leader Tshering Tobgay cabinet ministers, senior government officials, representatives from international offices, the media fraternity, and students attended the award ceremony.
