September 15: A man in his early twenties has been found dead at the entrance of a building a few meters from the clock tower in Thimphu. The building is located above the road and houses a bar where he reportedly spent the previous night drinking.
The police were informed about the incident at round 7 am on Saturday morning by the owner of the Ugyen Drayang bar.
The body was first seen by a girl who was on her way to school. She informed the owner of the building. The owner of the building then informed the owner of Ugyen Drayang bar.
The bar owner, Ugyen Dorji, said the deceased was already drunk when he came to the bar at around 10:30 pm on Friday night. He asked for a bottle of beer. He finished drinking only half his beer when he dropped the beer glass and fell asleep where he was sitting.
Ugyen Dorji said at around midnight when everybody had left, the deceased was still sleeping in the same place. He said one of his workers tried to wake him up but he could not.
At around 12:30 am on Saturday morning, when he came back after dropping his workers, Ugyen Doji said the deceased was still there.
He said he then woke up the deceased and took him outside and left him on the staircase.
Ugyen Dorji said the deceased could have fallen down the stairs while trying to get up and go home. He said the deceased had sustained a cut on the forehead.
Police said there seems to be no foul play involved.
Dr. Pakila Drukpa, a forensic expert with the national referral hospital, said the deceased was totally intoxicated. Except for the cut on the forehead, there were no internal or external injuries.
The body of the deceased has been kept at the mortuary of the national referral hospital.
Police said the deceased appears to be in his early twenties and is about five feet four inches tall.
