April 22: A 50-year-old man has committed suicide in Umling, Gelephu after beating up his wife, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law and setting their house on fire.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening.
The man was working as a forest guard with the Park Range Office in Umling.
According to his wife, her husband left home in the afternoon for patrolling duty. When he returned, he picked up a quarrel when she asked him why he had come earlier than usual. He then beat up all of them except for their four children.
After that he hung himself from a tree. Our reporter Sonam Rinchen says the family members are undergoing treatment at the Gelephu hospital for head injuries and bone fractures. Doctors said all are in stable condition.
Sarpang Dzongda Sangay Thinley said the Dzongkhag has provided school uniforms for the children and clothes for the family members. |
