May 7: A 49-year-old man from India has been arrested in connection with printing and circulation of fake Bhutanese currency notes. He was arrested on
May 2 in Phuentsholing.
Police caught the man while he was attempting to make a second deal with
his Bhutanese customers.
The suspect informed the police, that some more Indians were also involved
in the crime. His partners are still at large.
Police said that the suspect has admitted to have made samples of fake Bhutanese currency notes of Nu 500, 100 and 50 denominations.
He admitted that he has received Nu. 20,000 from his Bhutanese
dealers as an advance for the printing of the fake notes, a few days
before the arrest.
The suspect possessed a high resolution photocopying machine which copies
all the features of the Currency notes. The police confiscated the machine
also.
Although the suspect said he is committing the crime for the first time,
police suspect he must have done several times.
