Lungchutse Lhakhang consecrated

April 26: The Lungchutse Lhakhang in Thimphu was consecrated yesterday following a major renovation. Located above Dochula pass at an altitude of 3,566 meters, the Lungchutse Lhakhang was built by Terton Drukda Dorji towards the end of the 16th century.

His Majesty the King, His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo, Their Majesties the Queens, and Their Royal Highnesses the Princes and Princesses attended the consecration ceremony.

The former Prime Minister Lyonchen Kinzang Dorji and the Army Chief were also present at the consecration. The former Machen Zimpon Kado presided over the consecration ceremony.

The Lhakhang’s renovation was initiated by Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. With funds from Her Majesty, the renovation began in 2003. As part of the renovation work, the Lhakhang was also extended to accommodate more people. Her Majesty also constructed two Tsamkhangs, a house for the Lam and a dinning hall for the Tsampas.

The Lhakhang has also been provided with electricity and telephone connection. The Lhakhang was renovated as a tribute to His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo for his visionary leadership and selfless sacrifice. During the renovation, Her Majesty made regular visits to the construction site.

The former Machen Zimpon Kado offered Tashi Ze Gay to His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo and Kusung Thugten Mendrel to His Majesty the King.

The lam of Lungchutse Lhakhang Karma Gyeltshen said with the renovation of the Lhakhang, Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck has helped the nation preserve yet another sacred and important national treasure.

Her Majesty is also constructing a new Lhakhang at Dochula for the wellbeing of all sentient beings.
