June 10: The Ministry of Education is recruiting 222 teachers to address the problem of teacher shortage. Over 270 turned up for the interview yesterday.

More than 270 teachers came to sit for the interview at the Education Ministry yesterday. Of that 42 are retried teachers.

The Ministry of Education said they are going to recruit only 222 teachers.

Tshewang Tandin, the Director of the Department of School Education said the country has only two teacher training colleges. The number of teachers passing out from the colleges cannot meet the demand.

Tshewang Tandin said all the selected candidates will be sent to remote schools across the kingdom.

He said the selected candidates will have to enter a two year contract with the ministry. At the end of the contract period, based on the performance and interest of the candidates, they will be enrolled in Post Graduate Diploma in Education.
