Kilkhorthang gewog's NC candidate- Pema Dukpa

November 24: The people of Kikhorthang gewog in Tsirang have nominated Pema Dukpa, a recent university graduate, as their National Council candidate.

He won his nomination in a gewog level election beating three other aspiring National Council candidates.

Most gewogs do not even have a single candidate but the scenario was different in Kilkhorthang in Tsirang. There were four candidates who all aspired to become the Kilkhorthang gewog candidate. So an election had to be held in the gewog to decide the candidate.

26-year-old Pema Dukpa won 208 votes, about half the total number of votes, to secure his nomination. 470 people took part in the election.

While he has been able to secure his nomination, he said he is not as sure about the National Council election where he has to beat all the other candidates from his Dzongkhag. But he said if elected he will serve the country and the people with loyalty and dedication.

Kikhorthang gewog has over 2,000 eligible voters. But only over 600 turned up for the meeting.
