March 05: The re-construction of Kidu houses for the business community of Wamrong is nearing completion. About 80% of the works are completed. Fourteen houses are being built for the local residents and the shopkeepers. The construction started months back.
The fire last October had razed 12 houses belonging to the local and business community.
People said that they were worried whether or not they would be able to sustain their livelihood. But their worries were put to rest after His Majesty the King visited the area and granted them Semso.
“We are very thankful for His Majesty’s personal visit here. With help from armed forces, the house is now nearing completion. So we are very grateful for His Majesty,” said Tenzin, a shopkeeper.
Wamrong town is located in a congested area. Our reporter, Tenzin Dorji, says that with the coming up of new houses, the area has become clean and comfortable.
“We are very happy to get a Kidu from His Majesty. I have to feed many children and hope his majesty will continue to look after us. We prey for long life of His Majesty,” said Thungku, another shopkeeper who lost her belongings in the fire.

With the construction nearing completion, people are excited and are preparing to enter into their newly built houses.
However, these houses are to be used only for two years. After that people have to build their own houses.
Meanwhile, the fire victims have pitched their own tents as temporary accommodations. |
