Khotakpa residents await economic opportunities

September 30:As Pema Gatshel plans for a new township at Denchey, residents of Khotakpa eagerly await economic opportunities this will bring. The plans for re-location of the Dzongkhag headquarters to Denchey are being finalized.

Our reporter Pema Samdrup says the new development will especially benefit the people of Khotakpa.

One of the businessmen told BBS that the move would improve the economic situation in the area by boosting business opportunities.

For the shopkeepers of Khotakpa, business currently is not lucrative. The employees of Gypsum Mines and Druk Plaster Company are their only customers.

Occasionally, a few villagers from near by areas visit their shops. The new township is also expected to bring the market closer to farmers of almost all the seven Gewogs in the Dzongkhag.

This will help enhance the income of the farmers. Khotakpa has some six to eight shops with a population of about two-hundred people. Khothapa is 12 kilometers from proper Pema Gatshel town.
