October 23: A team of JICA officials visited Udzorong in Trashigang to assess Japanese assisted projects in the area and study the need for additional machineries for constructing farm roads.
A team of Japanese officials led by the Deputy Resident Representative of JICA office in New Delhi, India visited Udzorong, Trashigang on Saturday.
Their purpose is to assess how Japanese assisted projects have benefited the people there and study the need for additional machineries for constructing farm roads.
Previously JICA had provided machinery like bulldozers, excavators, wheel loaders, road rollers, dump trucks and air compressors to the central machinery unit. Some of the machinery has been kept at Udzorong and Yonphupam in Trashigang.
After the visit the Japanese delegation expressed satisfaction with the way the assistance has been utilized.
The Deputy Resident Representative of JICA office in New Delhi said they were happy to see the impact the project has brought to the lives of the people. He said with the machinery they have provided, about 150 Kilometers of farm road has been constructed in eastern region.
In the tenth plan there are plans to construct 3,000 kilometers of farm road in the country. About 1,500 kilometers will be constructed by the Central Machinery Unit.
To do that, a senior program officer with the Central Machinery Unit in Bumthang says they will need additional machinery.
