August 12: The landslide at Takti has not only disrupted road communication but the Internet services in the Kingdom as well.
Bhutan Telecom is currently providing the service using a back-up radio link, which has limited bandwidth. This means users will experience slow Internet access.
Slow internet speed these days is a cause of concern for businesses especially, the Internet cafes. The Bhutan Telecom’s fiber optic line at Takti, which carries the Internet traffic, was damaged by landslides last week. This has resulted in the slow internet access within the country.
According to some of the internet cafes in the capital there are only a few or no customers these days. Some of the owners said they have even cut down the internet use charges.
For the internet users, it has become tedious to either upload or download attachments and pictures on the internet.
Meanwhile Bhutan telecom says efforts are being made to restore the damaged line by the end of the week.
The General Manager of the Operations Division P. M. Pradhan said repair work at the site in Takti is being hampered by bad weather.
