December 8: December 5 is International Volunteers day. In Bhutan, the day was observed at the CICCC ground on Saturday. The Labour and Human Resource Minister Lyonpo Dorji Wangdi graced the occasion.

“Your happiness is a result of other’s happiness. Volunteer for other’s happiness for your own happiness” is the theme for this year.

Speaking at the function the Labour and Human Resources Minster Lyonpo Dorji Wangdi said Bhutan has been fortunate in terms of receiving international volunteer’s services. He said international volunteers have proved useful in bridging the human resources gap in the country.

Lyonpo Dorji Wangdi also acknowledged the contribution of volunteers in the Coronation and centenary celebrations. He said it is time to institutionalize a national volunteer service system in the country.

Cultural programmes were also performed to observe the day. International and national volunteers attended the function.
