December 5: The Indian Minister of Power Sushil Kumar Shinde arrived in the Kingdom on a three day official visit yesterday.
Upon arrival at the Paro International Airport he was received by the Minister for Economic Affairs Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk, the Indian ambassador to Bhutan Sudhir Vyas and senior government officials.
Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde is accompanied by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Power, the Joint Secretary North of the Ministry of External Affairs and other senior officials.
Mr. Shinde called on the Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley and the Minister for Economic Affairs Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk after he arrived in the capital.
He will be visiting Chhukha power plant and Tala dam site today.
A news release from the Ministry of Economic Affairs says during the visit, the two governments will discuss the development of 10,000 Megawatts of hydropower by 2020.
It says the visit of the Indian Power Minister will further strengthen the relations between Bhutan and India and also deepen the close cooperation in hydropower development for mutual benefit.
