May 16: Two men in their twenties were arrested on Wednesday, May 14 for possession and illegal transaction of controlled substances. Both were caught at the Chunzom check post by the narcotic drugs law enforcement unit of the police.

May 16: Bhutanese archers who participated in the South Asian Archery Championship brought home 26 medals, 19 silver and seven bronze. The championship was held in Jamshedpur in India from March 5 to March 10.

May 16: A four year old child has been seriously injured after she fell from the second floor of the Phuentsholing general hospital yesterday morning. She had come with her grandmother who was visiting a sick person in the hospital. The child has been referred to the National Referral hospital in Thimphu.

May 16: The Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, Agriculture Ministry, Ministry of Works and Human Settlement and the National Environment Commission will field a team to study the development of Gasa Tsachu vis-à-vis its impact on the migration of the national animal, Takin. A news release from the Cabinet Secretariat says Gasa Tsachu could be managed by the local people as a cooperative undertaking. It could be developed into a resort or a hospice. It says the extension of Chubu Tsachu would be considered as an alternative health resort and ease pressure on Gasa Tsachu. |
