March 18: Another case of impersonation has been reported in Trongsa. The incident happened on February 14. The impersonator called the Post Master in Trongsa identifying himself as the Trongsa Drangpon. He asked the post master to deliver Nu. 15,000 to his son, Phub Dorji, a student in Gelephu Higher Secondary School.
Speaking to BBS, the Post Master, Pema Wangchuk, said the man sounded exactly like the Drangpon. So he transferred the money as fax money order on the same day to the Gelephu post office.
At the Gelephu Post Office, the money was handed over to a person who identified himself as Phub Dorji. He even produced a new citizenship ID card to prove his identity.
Gelephu Post Master Tsechu Norbu said the person came to their office at around 10 am and waited for an hour for the fax money order to arrive. The next day the post master in Trongsa called the Drangpon to ask for the money and found out that the Drangpon had not made the call.
The impersonator is believed to be a man called Dechen Dorji from Trashigang dzongkhag. His identity was traced from the mobile phone which he used to make the calls. |
