ICT Fair at CICCC ground fails to attract visitors

November 17:
Fairs and trade shows are also being held at the CICCC ground where a series of activities are taking place day and night as part of the coronation and centenary celebrations. Currently an ICT fair is on show. But visitors seem to show very little interest leaving the ICT vendors disappointed.

The ICT fair at the CICCC ground started on Thursday. More than 50 local ICT vendors are showcasing their products and services at the fair. The Department of Information Technology is exhibiting the localized Dzongkha Linux operating system. But the fair is not drawing many visitors.

The lukewarm response from the visitors has disappointed the ICT vendors. P.L Sharma has come from Wangdue and rented two stalls. He is paying Nu. 22,500 as rent for the seven day fair. He said it is a total loss.

ICT vendors cited inadequate awareness on the fair among the public as one of the reasons. Some said the fair was wrongly timed. They said the response would have better if the fair was organized during the weeklong national holiday.

The vendors however said though the sales are discouraging, they are happy that they were able to take part in the coronation and centenary celebrations and advertise their businesses and products.

The weeklong ICT fair concludes on the November 19.
