October 28:The Bank of Bhutan office in Samdrupjongkhar has been seeing a huge rush of people as the deadline for coronation and centenary loan scheme draws closer.

If you visit the Bank of Bhutan branch office in Samdrupjongkhar, you will see an unusual rush of people.

This is all thanks to the new coronation and centenary loan scheme introduced by the bank.

The scheme launched in May this year offers a 1.5 percent interest discount on all loans under the scheme.

The loans offered under the scheme are ladies plus, education and pensioner’s loan, all introduced this year. It also includes consumer and vehicle loans. The scheme is available only till the 31st of December.

Our reporter Pema Samdrup says the BoB office in Samdrupjongkhar has sanctioned about thirty two million ngultrums within a span of five months.

He said over three hundred people have availed different loans under the scheme. Of that about sixty percent have opted for consumer loan or what was initially called the Government Employee loan.

A Senior Manager of the bank in Samdrupjongkhar said they sanction loans to at least six clients in a day.

He said many more are under process. He said the rush is because of the approaching deadline.
