Hoteliers learn to conserve energy

Hoteliers from across the country are attending a workshop on Energy Conservation and Efficiency Improvement Measures in the capital.

Organized by the Renewable Energy division of the Department of Energy, the workshop is part of the Integrated Energy Management Master Plan project. The workshop is first of its kind to be held in the country.

Speaking to the participants the Executive Engineer of the Renewable Energy Division of the Department of Energy, Mewang Gyeltshen said they are targeting the hoteliers because hotel industry is growing very fast with increasing number of tourists visiting Bhutan.

This he said means energy consumption by hotels would also go up. Therefore, he said there is a need to create awareness on the importance of energy conservation and use of energy efficient appliances.

Participants were also given tips on how to minimize energy consumption.

Shirish Garud is a consultant from the Renewable Energy Technology Applications in Delhi, India. He said proper designing of lighting system could minimize energy wastage. A similar workshop for the industrialists will be held in Phuentsholing in January.
