His Majesty hosts tokha for MPs

December 6: His Majesty the King hosted a tokha for the members of the parliament at the Lingkana Palace yesterday. At the tokha, His Majesty the King commanded that as symbols of their office, all serving members of Parliament would, in addition to their blue Kabney, wear the patang as well.

His Majesty the King said, the pathang comes as a token of confidence and as a symbol of faith that His Majesty has in the parliamentarians.

His Majesty said that as people’s representatives, the parliamentarians should wear the pathang not as a symbol of power but instead to remind them of their duties and responsibilities.

In his interactions with the parliamentarians, His Majesty the King said that the Coronation and Centenary celebrations are not for the Kings but for the public so that they can cherish the celebrations for generations to come.

At the tokha yesterday, His Majesty the King and the parliamentarians participated in a game of archery.

Also at the tokha at the Lingkana Palace their Royal Highnesses Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck and Prince Jigme Dorji Wangchuck joined the parliamentarians in the festivities. Their Royal Highness Ashi Sonam Dechan Wangchuck and Ashi Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck were also present.

The day’s programme also featured cultural performances by artists from the Royal Academy of Performing Arts.

At the celebrations, parliamentarians who spoke to BBS said it is always an immense honour to receive an audience with His Majesty the King.
