October 10: His Majesty the King granted an audience to the Joint Secretary (North) of the Indian External Affairs Ministry Mrs. Preeti Saran at the Tashichoedzong yesterday.

Mrs. Saran arrived in the kingdom on Monday to attend the first meeting of the Punatsangchu Hydroelectricity Project Authority.

She joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1982 after acquiring a master’s degree in English from Lady Shri Ram’s College in New Delhi.

Mrs. Saran was appointed as Joint Secretary in January 2006.

Before that she served as a Director in the Ministry of External Affairs.

She has also served as a minister counselor in the permanent mission of India to the UN in Geneva and as a counselor in the embassy of India in Egypt.
