March 05: His Majesty the King granted an audience to the Indian Cabinet Secretary, K.M. Chandrasekhar, at the Tashichodzong this afternoon. He is on a three-day official visit.
Born in 1948, K.M. Chandrasekhar completed his Indian Administrative Service in 1970.
Among the several posts held in the government of India, he also served as an Ambassador and permanent representative to the World Trade Organisation in Geneva. He also served as Revenue secretary in Ministry of Finance.
Mr. K.M. Chandrasekhar has Masters Degree in History and Management studies from the University of Delhi and the University of Leeds respectively.
Cabinet Secretary calls on the PM
The Cabinet Secretary called on the Prime Minister later this afternoon.
Discussing a gamut of issues with the prime minister, Mr. K.M. Chandrasekhar who is on his first visit to the Kingdom described Bhutan as a “happening place” with great concepts and ideas on development.
The great thing about Bhutan is that it takes ideas, adapts them to its culture and requirements,” he told Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley.
India and Bhutan, he said, shared common ideas and thinking process, learned from each other and were both committed to uplifting the poorest of the poor.
“India is deeply bound in the development process Bhutan has decided for itself,” he said. Wherever we can be of help, whichever field, India’s doors are open to Bhutan.”
The Prime Minister said Bhutan was happy to have received many historic visits from India over the past two years, leaders from the government, public and private sectors all driven towards exploring and deepening the cooperation between the two countries.
He said the credit for much of what has happened in Bhutan goes to the generosity of India which has supported in every sphere of Bhutan’s development, including during its transition to democracy.
A while earlier the Bhutanese Cabinet Secretary, Dasho Tashi Phuntshog, and Mr. K.M. Chandrasekhar discussed how India possibly could be of help to Bhutan in strengthening the roles and responsibilities of the office of the cabinet secretary.
He will also deliver a talk on “Functions of Cabinet, Committee of Secretaries and Relationship between Bureaucracy and Politicians,” at the Tarayana Conference Hall tomorrow. |
