His Majesty the King granted an audience to the members of the National Assembly at the Tashichhodzong yesterday.
In the morning National Assembly members took their Oath or Affirmation of Office as provided for in the Third Schedule of the Constitution.
The Prime Minister, the Cabinet Ministers, the Speaker, and the Deputy Speaker also took the Oath or Affirmation of Secrecy as provided in the Fourth Schedule of the Constitution.
According to the Draft Constitution, all legislative powers are vested in the Parliament consisting of the Druk Gyalpo, the National Council and the National Assembly.
It says the parliament shall ensure that the Government safeguards the interests of the nation and fulfills the aspirations of the people through public review of policies and issues, Bills and other legislation, and scrutiny of State functions. |
