July 10: His Holiness the Je Khenpo awarded certificates to 21 Dzongkha lecturers from the colleges under the Royal University of Bhutan who completed their master’s degree.

The function was also attended by the venerable Drabi Lopen and Tsugla Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang, the Vice Chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan Dasho Pema Thinley, the Secretary of the Royal Civil Service Commission Dasho Bap Kesang and RUB officials.

A news release from the Royal University of Bhutan says there are not many Dzongkha lecturers who have master’s degree. In 2004, the RUB put up a proposal to the Royal Civil Service Commission to provide them with scholars from the Zhung Dratshang for the master’s course.

Following this, the two year masters course in Dzongkha was started in 2006. The government has spent around Nu. 19,00,000 for the course.
