July 29: Her Royal Highness Ashi Sonam Dechan Wangchuck will be visiting the island of Tonga from July 30 to August 3 to represent His Majesty the King of Bhutan at the coronation ceremony of His Majesty the King of Tonga.
While Bhutan and Tonga do not have diplomatic relations, the two countries enjoy cordial relations.
A news release from the Foreign Ministry says the presence of Her Royal Highness at this important ceremony will further strengthen the ties of friendship between the two kingdoms.
His Majesty the King of Tonga visited Bhutan last December to personally invite His Majesty the King of Bhutan to attend his coronation ceremony.
His Majesty King George Tupou V ascended the throne on September 10, 2006 following the demise of his father His Majesty King Tupou IV at the age of 88 years.
The coronation ceremony is to take place on August 1 in Tonga.
