October 09: The National Orientation Program for graduates began yesterday at the swimming pool complex. One thousand thirty four graduates are attending the program. The number is highest so far.
Among them is His Royal Highness Dasho Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck. Dasho Jigyel completed his studies from Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
Of the 1034 graduates, only 354 are from Bhutan. The rest are from colleges outside the country with more than 600 graduates from India.
Last year only around 800 graduates attended the program.
The National Graduates’ Orientation was opened by the Prime Minister Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji. Addressing them he said they must play an important role in shaping the future of the kingdom. The kingdom’s future lies in their hands, he said.
Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji also spoke about political developments taking place in the kingdom and said we must all work together to ensure the success of parliamentary democracy.
The Prime Minister also highlighted plans and policies of the Royal government.
After the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Justice Lyonpo Sonam Tobgay briefed the graduates on the draft constitution and the constitutional rights and responsibilities.
During the orientation program, the graduates will be briefed on the plans and policies of the government.
They will also be briefed on a wide range of topics from good governance and democracy to constitutional rights and responsibilities, Buddhism, media, and employment opportunities.
They will also be familiarized with Driglam Namzha.
