Government revenue increases by 46%

January 18: The overall government revenue increased by 46% in the fiscal year 2006-2007.

The revenue collected amounted to more than Nu. 10,000 million. This is an increase of more than Nu. 3,000 million from the last fiscal year.

In the fiscal year 2005-2006 the revenue collected was less than Nu. 7,000 million.

According to the report, electricity is the biggest contributor to the government followed by trade, service, finance, manufacturing and primary sector.

Among the government revenue agencies, Chhukha Hydropower Plant, Tala Hydropower Authority and Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan contributed the highest revenue.

The Chukha Hydropower Plant with its contribution of almost Nu. 2,700 million made up 26.5% of the total revenue.

The Tala Hydropower Authority contributed Nu. 1,800 million, constituting 17.7% of the total revenue.

In the private businesses, Druk Satair Ltd, SD Eastern Bhutan Coal Company Ltd and Singye Group of Companies were the top contributors to the revenue.

The revenue from the top ten private businesses amounted to more than Nu. 100 million which is 11% of the total revenue.
