July 7: The first ever Golden Youth Camp opened in the capital today. Her Royal Highness Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck graced the opening ceremony.
148 students from classes six, eight, ten and twelve from across the country are competing for the title of golden youth. These students are the winners of the Golden Youth title in their respective Dzongkhags.
Eight among them- four girls and four boys, will be identified as the golden youth. Two out-of-school youth will also be identified as golden youth. The six day camp will include academics, sports, art and social service. The selection will be based on outstanding performance in academics and sports and active participation in extra curricular activities.
The Golden Youth Award will recognize and reinforce outstanding qualities in Bhutanese youth. It is expected to motivate youth to work hard, be responsible and grow up as able citizens and leaders.
The award will be presented during the Annual Youth Festival to be held on November 11 coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, which is also celebrated as the Children’s Day.
