November 16: Gewog zomdus are being held across the kingdom to nominate candidates for the National Council election. Similar meetings were recently held in Monggar and Lhuentse.

Over in Monggar, gewog zomdus are being conducted to nominate candidates for the NC election.

Last week gewog zomdus were held in Balam, Sherimuhung, Tsakaling, Tasmang, Drepong, Monggar and Ngatshang gewogs.

Our reporter Karma Tenzin says the people in these seven gewogs failed to nominate a candidate for their gewogs.

On Wednesday, Chaskhar gewog conducted a meeting to nominate the gewog’s candidate for the National Council election. During the meeting the Dzongkhag Election Officer Mani Kumar Galey explained the difference between the National Council and the National Assembly. The meeting nominated retired lieutenant Colonel Pema Wangdi as the Chaskhar gewog candidate.

Similar meetings were also held in the eight gewogs of Lhuentse dzongkhag. Except for Khoma gewog, the rest have no candidate.

Rinzin, the former Program Director of the National Feed and Fodder Development in Bumthang has been nominated as the candidate for Khoma gewog.

Our reporter Karma Tenzin says two fresh graduates have expressed their interest to contest from Gangzur and Kurtoe gewogs. However they were rejected as they have not yet attained the minimum age criteria of 25 years.
