September 06: Gelephu residents are spending sleepless nights due to the Monsoon rains.

On Tuesday night, the Monsoon rains threatened to wash away a residence cum shop located below the road at Shetikhari in Gelephu. At 2am in the middle of the night, the family members had to hurriedly remove their belongings and move away to a safer place.

Our Gelephu correspondent says a nearby stream has changed course and has flooded the whole area. The family, he says, is in a dilemma. They don’t know if they should return home or stay where they are temporarily sheltered.

Local residents said Gelephu received the heavy rainfall this year compared to the previous years.

In July his year, the Monsoon rain submerged most of the paddy fields in Pelrithang, disrupted traffic and flooded homes damaging properties.
