September 01: Gelephu police have apprehended a burglar who is thought to be responsible for a spate of burglaries in Gelephu town.

Karma Wangchuk was arrested at the Indo Bhutan border check post yesterday morning when he was trying to escape in a truck to Phuntsholing.

Police have also recovered several items he had stolen.

Our reporter Sonam Rinchen says some of the burglaries were committed during broad day light.

On Wednesday, he broke into the residence of an Indian businessman. The next day, he broke into two houses, a residential apartment of a teacher and a shop, both located in the heart of the town.
