November 4: Gelephu Gewog under Sarpang Dzongkhag has nominated their candidate for the National Council.At a Gewog Zomdu convened by the Gup, former deputy director of the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Karam Donnen Wangdi has been nominated as the Gelephu Gewog’s National Council candidate.

Around 300 people from five Chiwogs under Gelephu Gewog turned up for the Zomdu. Karam Donnen Wangdi is the only candidate contesting for the national council elections from Gelephu Gewog. If there is more than one candidate, the people will have to decide their candidate either by consensus or by voting.

Talking to the gathering, Karam Donnen Wangdi briefed them on the powers and functions of the National Council. He told the gathering that if is elected he will strive to ensure that the functions of the ruling and the opposition parties of the government are in line with the interest of the nation and the people.

Taking advantage of the meeting the PDP Gelephu candidate, Garab Dorji, took the opportunity to introduce himself to the gathering. Garab Dorji is a graduate of Sherubtse College. After his graduation, he worked for a while with Yangphel tours and treks. Thereafter he worked as a freelance tour guide and as the president of the tour guide’s association.
