October 15: The Gaeddu College of Business Studies was inaugurated by Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck yesterday.
Addressing the gathering, Her Majesty the Queen said the Gaeddu College of business studies will play an important role in promoting the socio-economic development of the kingdom.
By 2013, the college will be able to accommodate 1500 students. Her Majesty the Queen said the conversion of the THPA complex has made it possible to provide opportunities for an increased number of students in the university.
Her Majesty said if the University of Bhutan had to build a college of this size, the time taken for its completion would have denied many students this opportunity.
The Vice Chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan Dasho Pema Thinley said the college will serve as a seat of learning and produce educated youth who will drive the future of the country.
The Gaeddu College of Business Studies spreads over nearly 290 acres and was built at a cost of Nu. 750 million.
The college has 525 students. They began their classes in July this year.
The college offers bachelors degree courses in business studies.
The Health Minister Lyonpo Zangley Dukpa and other senior officials were present during the ceremony.
